FAZENDA SANTA QUITERIA

                          

                    

Santa Quitéria Farm is located in the small town of Cambuquira, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Cambuquira is located in Mantiqueira that is a renowned coffee growing region within the state of Minas Gerais. Cambuquira is also known for having one of the best spring mineral water in the world.

Maria Umbelina Sales Gomes, great-grandmother of the current owner founded the farm in 1830. Today Simone Carneiro de Morais Sousa and her husband Artur Queiroz de Sousa are involved in the business and they are the sixth generation coffee farming family. It has not always been solely coffee. In the early 1900´s they also farmed dairy cattle and provided milk and cheese the local hotels and community.

Artur and Simone are incredibly proud and exceptionally passionate and dedicated to the farm they love so dearly. They both are very active in the broader coffee farming community. The farm Santa Quitéria conducts projects in the community such as presenting lectures on sustainability in coffee production; creating partnerships at trade shows and farm management seminars for farmers on how to deal with issues they are being faced with on the farm. Simone is on the board director of International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA) – Brazil and also the Institutional Director of AMECAFE Mantiqueira that is an Association of Entrepreneur Coffee Women from Mantiqueira Region, which was created aiming to give juridical, social and regional support to coffee woman in order to facilitate the IWCA – Brazil action in Mantiqueira region. In 2018, Simone won the “Novo Agro” Prize offered by Santander Bank and University of São Paulo – Esalq in the Women in Small Business category.

With just over 100 hectares of pure Arabica coffee, he farm can produce as much as 4,000 bags of coffee per year with over 80% considered high end specialty coffee. All the coffee produced by Santa Quitéria is fully washed and naturally processed, making them one of the largest producers of naturally processed coffees in the region.

Santa Quitéria has training facilities onsite and ensures that every employee is fully trained in every aspect of the coffee producing process. The working environment is safe and secure and all workers are provided with protective gear and covered by accident, transport, and life insurance.

Sweetness, intense aroma, acidity, body and flavor are characteristics of Santa Quitéria coffee, which was one of the finalist of the 1st Cup of Excellence Late Harvest in 2012 and since then have shown great natural processing coffees with extraordinary quality. Santa Quiteria is certified for Fair Trade, associated with BSCA and Aprocam, which allows exporting and selling to the best cafeterias in Brazil.
